Hearing protection

Hearing protection refers to all types of protective devices that protect the hearing from loud noises and thus prevent acoustic trauma.

Hearing protection is used in many situations. Whether on a building site, at work or at music events. Wherever the noise level exceeds the legally prescribed safety value, hearing protection can counteract hearing loss through its insulating effect. For this reason, it is important to find suitable hearing protection.

What types of hearing protection are there?

New materials and processes have contributed significantly to the further development of a wide variety of protection options that can offer users valuable protection in a wide range of situations. The duration of wear plays an important role when it comes to choosing the right hearing protection.

Earmuffs are ear-enclosing capsules made from a hard plastic shell filled with sound-absorbing foam. These are connected to each other by a padded headband. They dampen ambient noise and protect the wearer from noise. The ear muffs are used for short-term use and are very easy to put on and take off. The ear muffs are reusable and can be used by several people if they are properly sanitised.

There are also ear plugs. These are also known as earplugs. Depending on the material, they are more or less flexible. The earplugs are available in many colours and can be used once or several times in succession, depending on the type and suitability. However, ear plugs are only designed for single use. Accordingly, they are not particularly expensive and can often be purchased in large quantities (bulk material).

Earplugs with a connecting clip are called ear defenders. The clip is used to position and remove the earplugs easily and effectively. The hanger, which is worn around the neck, also helps to minimise the loss of hearing protection. The ear defenders are washable and therefore reusable. Care and occasional cleaning are very important to prevent infections.

Electric hearing protection is also known as active hearing protection. This is set so that it lets through normal conversations and also low-level noises from the surroundings. Above a volume of 85dB, it has an active noise-insulating effect. This makes it ideal in situations with strongly varying noise levels, which also enables intelligible conversation.

Are there any accessories for hearing protection?

So-called dispensers are ideal for storing earplugs. These can simply be set up or mounted on a wall. The plugs can be removed simply and easily by turning a mechanism. This is supported by the integrated drip tray. This not only simplifies storage, but also ensures hygiene. SFS has various dispenser models in its range.

Sweat absorbers from 3M can provide support on hot days. These are cotton pads for the hygienic use of earmuffs. These self-adhesive pads are simply stuck onto the earmuffs and are responsible for absorbing the sweat.

SFS also offers hygiene kits for earmuffs. These are not only used for hygiene, but also ensure the protection of the earmuffs. They extend the service life of the product, which significantly delays the need to purchase new ones. Regular replacement reduces the risk of infection through contamination.
